Dental bonding can be a great and affordable way to cover and protect a small amount of dental damage while maintaining a bright, natural looking and radiant smile. Here at the PDX Center for Dentistry, we know how important it is for dentists to have skill in bonding. One wrong move and that little mistake can make a big mess in the appearance of a patient’s smile. That is why we are proud to have the latest technology and years of experience in improving the smiles of people just like you!
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is the name for a procedure in which we take a composite resin material and apply it to a tooth. Once it is applied, we can shape and mold it to fit your tooth comfortably and seamlessly for it to repair minor damage and look great. Then we harden (or cure) it with a special light, and your smile is once again perfect. Dental bonding can be used for a variety of reasons and is much more affordable than some of the other alternative procedures that could be used instead to repair any damage. It can be used to repair minor cosmetic issues such as discoloration, chips, cracks, or to close the spaces between teeth. These resins can also be used to fill cavities in a way that looks natural and is strong. This material can also be used to lengthen your teeth, change the overall shape of your teeth, or to protect your roots if your gums begin to recede, as those can become extremely sensitive very quickly.
Here is How it Works
The first thing we will do is prepare the surface of your tooth by removing a small amount of enamel. This allows the resin to adhere to your tooth in a way that it would not be able to do with a regular tooth. Then, we will mold the resin to fix whatever problem you are having. We can fill in a chip, fill in a cavity, lengthen a short tooth, and much more. Then we use a special light that cures the substance, giving it permanence and strength with a perfectly natural cosmetic quality. Then, we need to make sure that it fits your mouth comfortably and does not break or chip away, so we buff the surface smooth and polish it to look identical to the rest of your teeth. This is a great option because it is affordable, often pain-free, and looks very natural. We do warn you though that if you smoke, this is probably not a good option because it does stain, and also bonding may require replacement eventually as it is not quite as strong as say a porcelain veneer. The PDX Center for Dentistry assures you that you are in great hands and you will be more than satisfied with your results. You will be able to have the naturally radiant smile you have dreamed about. Give us a call today!
